The establishment of St Paul's College Kempsey in 1965 completed 30 years of planning. St Paul's commenced classes on February 8, 1965 with 87 boys from Classes 5, 6 and 1st form. In 1968 the school was established for students from Year 5 to Fourth Form.
In 1973 St Pius X Regional High School was built on the eastern side of the St Paul's site. The two schools were administered separately but shared Library and other facilities.
In 1980 the two schools were amalgamated and became Macleay Regional Catholic High School and the motto "Let Your Light Shine" was established.
In 1985 the name was reverted to the original St Paul's, but the motto of MCRHS was retained.
1991 marked the first Year 11 students and in 2000 the first 4 stream Year 7 class began.
As with all Catholic schools Religious Education is a core part of the school. It is compulsory for students in all years. Years 7-10: "Catholic Studies" Years 11-12: "Studies of Religion", goes towards ATAR.
The badge incorporates features of the former St Pius X and St Paul's Badges. A shield with two tone blue and the Macleay Valley. In the upper right section there is a small replica of the St Paul's badge with the Chi Rho, the Southern Cross and Mary's emblem.
The SRC, or Student Representative Council, is a group of students who meet every so often to raise concerns and ideas of their fellow students. SRC Representatives are elected by the students from each homeroom. The SRC also hold fundraisers to raise money to make improvements around the school.
The SRC is also comprised and led by the four School Leaders (2 male and 2 female). The leadership candidates are nominated within the year 12 student body and are elected by the entire school community.
